Salary Package

The successful candidate will receive an all-inclusive remuneration package of R1 266 714 per annum (Level 13).

The appointed candidate will be required to enter into a Performance Agreement with the Chief Director: Integrity Management, Forensic Investigations and Security Management.
All shortlisted candidates will be subjected to a competency assessment as part of the recruitment process.

Job Purpose

The Director: Forensic Investigations is responsible for managing and conducting forensic investigations related to fraud, corruption, and maladministration within the Mpumalanga Provincial Government.

This role involves coordinating investigations, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, managing litigation-related processes, and ensuring that all forensic cases are properly registered, tracked, reported, and finalised in line with public service prescripts and legislation.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • An appropriate Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 7) in one of the following fields:
    • Investigations
    • Law
    • Forensic Auditing
    • Commercial Crime Investigations
    • Internal Audit
  • Membership with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience at middle or senior managerial level.
  • Proven experience in forensic investigations will serve as an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Manage and conduct investigations related to fraud, corruption, and maladministration.
  • Receive, analyse, and allocate allegations from:
    • The National Anti-Corruption Hotline
    • Municipalities
    • Provincial Departments
    • Members of the public
    • Whistle-blowers
  • Provide regular feedback on the status of cases to relevant structures, including:
    • MANCOM
    • Provincial Management Committees
  • Liaise with Internal Audit units across all departments to identify trends related to fraud and corruption.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including:
    • Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks)
    • Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU)
    • South African Revenue Service (SARS)
    • Crime Intelligence Unit
    • State Security Agency (SSA)
  • Review and quality-assure forensic audit and investigation reports.
  • Manage the case database and investigation tracking system.
  • Ensure all allegations are registered, recorded, and allocated to investigators.
  • Provide technical support to departments and municipalities regarding investigation processes.
  • Support departments and municipalities during audit processes and strategic planning sessions.
  • Provide systematic recommendations arising from finalised investigations.
  • Manage and oversee litigation-related reports.
  • Attend court proceedings and provide evidence during litigation when required.
  • Supply relevant documentation to all applicable stakeholders.
  • Liaise with legal practitioners on criminal proceedings and litigation matters.
  • Provide advisory support to litigation teams when necessary.
  • Manage and monitor the Provincial Litigation Register.
