Job Purpose

The Category Controller will provide administrative and operational support to the Purchasing Manager and Category Manager. The role involves compiling reports, assisting with stock replenishment, monitoring inventory, and ensuring daily administrative tasks are completed accurately.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative Support

  • Assist the Category Manager with daily tasks
  • Compile and distribute daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports
  • Coordinate department meetings including venue bookings and catering
  • Support marketing communication with retailers and suppliers

Stock & System Management

  • Ensure products are correctly listed on the AS400 system
  • List new products on the system
  • Maintain system data accuracy including pricing and stock quantities
  • Monitor out-of-stock products daily
  • Remove discontinued stock items

Supplier & Retailer Coordination

  • Follow up on orders placed with suppliers
  • Confirm supplier delivery bookings with receiving
  • Ensure supplier invoices match system pricing
  • Return unsold or non-performing stock
  • Contact retailers to sell overstocked products

Inventory Monitoring

  • Monitor stock levels and product age daily
  • Manage overstocked items and ADHOC SKUs
  • Capture additional demand products

Marketing Support

  • Prepare marketing reports
  • Assist with SPAR events such as:
    • Trade shows
    • Golf days
    • Public events
    • Retail roadshows

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric certificate
  • Mathematics on Higher Grade (HG)
  • Marketing Degree / Diploma or Purchasing Diploma
  • Strong numerical ability
  • Excellent administrative skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy

Advantageous Experience

The following will be beneficial but not required:

  • Previous creditors experience
  • Knowledge of the SPAR Creditors System
  • Warehouse or receiving experience
