This learnership leads to a Fitter Trade Test Certificate conducted under the supervision of the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA).

What You Will Learn

Successful candidates will receive structured workplace training in a mining and refinery environment. During the programme, learners will develop essential mechanical engineering skills, including:

• Understanding mechanical fitting and machining principles
• Performing first-line maintenance on mechanical equipment
• Assembly and disassembly of machinery components
• Alignment and installation of mechanical systems
• Using precision measuring instruments
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
• Maintaining plant equipment within normal operating conditions

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Education

• N2 Certificate in Mechanical Engineering with the following subjects:
  • Mathematics
  • Engineering Science
  • Fitter Trade Theory
  • Engineering Drawing

OR

• NCV Level 4 Certificate in Mechanical Engineering

Additional Requirements

• Basic knowledge of mechanical fitting or engineering trade principles
• Must be medically fit to work in both BMR and PMR plants
• Ability to work in an industrial or mining environment
