Salary Packages

The successful candidate will be appointed at either Grade 2 or Grade 3, depending on experience and qualification:

  • Grade 2: R661 263 per annum (inclusive remuneration package)
  • Grade 3: R1 016 055 per annum (inclusive remuneration package)

Job Purpose

The EMS District Manager (Grade 2–3) is responsible for the effective management and coordination of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) within the Waterberg District.

The role focuses on operational leadership at station level, management of EMS vehicles, equipment and personnel, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality emergency medical care in accordance with approved clinical protocols, operational procedures, and quality standards.

Minimum Requirements

A. Qualifications and Registration

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Successful completion of one of the following qualifications or programmes that allow registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as:
    • Emergency Care Technician (ECT)
    • Paramedic
    • Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP)
  • Recognised qualifications include:
    • Emergency Care Technician (ECT)
    • Critical Care Assistance (CCA) Programme
    • Recognised National Diploma in Emergency Medical Care (EMC)
    • Recognised BTech Degree in EMC
    • Bachelor of Health Science in Emergency Medical Care
  • Grade 2: Successful completion of the Emergency Care Technician (ECT) Course, allowing registration with the HPCSA as an ECT.
  • Grade 3: Successful completion of the Emergency Care Technician (ECT) Course, allowing registration with the HPCSA as an ECT.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience after registration with the HPCSA as an ECT, Paramedic, or ECP.
  • Copies of qualifications and current HPCSA registration must be attached.

B. Inherent Job Requirements

  • Willingness to work after hours, be on call, and perform shift work.
  • Computer literacy, including:
    • MS Outlook
    • MS Word
    • MS Excel
    • MS PowerPoint
    • Virtual meeting platforms
  • A valid driver’s licence with PDP (Code C1 / Code 10).

C. Knowledge and Skills

The ideal candidate must demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of ILS / ECT clinical protocols.
  • Understanding of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and its operational environment.
  • Proven managerial and interpersonal skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).

Key Responsibilities and Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Manage EMS vehicles, equipment, and personnel at station level.
  • Provide emergency medical treatment to patients in accordance with approved clinical protocols.
  • Maintain best clinical practices in line with quality and safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with standing operational procedures.
  • Support effective and efficient EMS service delivery within the district.
